US Debut of Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas

Posted on 11/22/2016

It's always a special treat to sail on an inaugural sailing, especially when it's the Worlds Largest Cruise Ship, Harmony of the Seas.
On this Inaugural sailing Royal Caribbean outdid themselves, treating guests to a Rocking Concert by chart toppers DNCE, the US Premier of THE FINE the most Visually Stunning show presented in the impossible to describe Aqua Theater. In the Royal Theater the Production Show, Columbus the Musical (Think Spamalot) features an amazing cast providing a comedic take on discovery. The top notch production of Grease is an adaptation of the Movie and Broadway Musicals of the same name, Bravo!
The Harmony of the Seas delivers all the staples available on sister Oasis Class Ships like Central Park, The Board Walk, Adults only Solarium, Zip Line, Flow Rider and Ice Rink.
The Harmony of the Seas, adds exciting new features including the Abyss a dry slide that drops 12 decks in high speed whirls. Also new on Harmony of the Seas is Perfect Storm Water Slide Trio Featuring exciting twist and turns interspersed with lighting effects and clear tubs that will make you gasp as you exit.
The included dinning options are extensive. Grand, Silk, American Icon, Solarium Cafe, Park Cafe are among the featured restaurants. The Optional (Additional Charge) dinning options include. The new Jamie's Italian Grill (Replaces Giovanni"s) Izumi Sushi, the Sensory experience of Wonderland, fine dinning at 151 Central Park, Tapas at Vintages, Great Steaks at Chops Grill, Plus great Burgers and Shakes at Johnny Rockets.

Accommodations range from budget interior staterooms to two deck Crown Loft Suites, with options for all in between.
Family options are available that can accommodate 6 or more guest from interior to suite categories. Additional Unique options include interior (But Outdoors) Central Park Balconies overlooking the Incredible Central Park, and a favorite of mine, the Boardwalk view Balcony Staterooms and Suites, providing outstanding people watching opportunities, partial water views and Aqua Theater Views from the comfort of your balcony.
With a ship of this size and number of guests onboard (6000) you would expect to feel over crowded, but thanks to the genius designers at Royal Caribbean the ship is very open with 5 different Neighborhoods for guests to enjoy and disperse to their particular interests leaving the ship feel decidedly un-crowded. The one exception is the purposely late night offerings in the Promenade featuring a 80s and 90s street festival atmosphere.

A question I always get is how is the embarkation process?

Royal Caribbean's Pier 18 at Port Everglades is the best cruise terminal in the world, only 10 minutes from curb to ship, for arrivals after 11, if you,'re an early bird, comfortable seating is provided while the ship is cleared. Transportation from Ft Lauderdale International is very easy with optional shuttles provided by Royal Caribbean or a $15 to $20 Taxi (My preferred method) only 15 minutes from airport. In summary The Harmony of the Seas is a Home run for all ages, couples, multi generational families and groups, guests looking for amazing suite options will be happy onboard. The exception to this are travelers that are destination focused. Do to the size of Harmony of the Seas, port options are limited to a few choice islands in the Eastern and Western Caribbean and Mexico, the ship is the true destination on these cruises.
