The Evolution of Carnival

Posted on 11/07/2016

I had the good fortune to recently attend the Carnival Vista Naming Ceremony and Preview cruise from NYC. From the outside the Carnival

Vista has a familiar look with iconic Carnival whale tail funnel

Upon closer inspection you see some of the all new features, including Sky Coaster and the huge water park complex.

After boarding the wow factor is huge and a departure from the Carnival old. The Carnival Vista features a contemporary design with no outlandish color schemes, odd statues or neon lights. I could see cues taken from competing brands mixed with unique Carnival features. Havana Club and suite area is a stand out, large suites with huge protected in/deck patios, pool area and Jazz Club, the nod to Cuba is well done.
Decks 10 - 14 have many features that will excite the family. Features include self propelled Sky Coaster located high above the center/aft of the ship. A not for the faint of heart ropes course, a wow factor water park for the young and old at heart. Serenity the adults only oasis with large sun beds, hot tubs, bar and more to keep you happy. Located near the stern of the ship, below sky coaster is a unique workout area that uses your body weight as resistance while doing familiar exercise's.
Deck 3-5 have additional public features including Punchline Comedy club, Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse with outdoor seating, Bonsai sushi bar, again with outdoor seating, one my favorites the Pig & Anchor BBQ joint with grilling and smoking on deck, and the Red Frog Saloon, with a great selection of Carnival Craft Beers (try a sampler)

Supervised kids activities a are available, these are offerings your kids will love, the pre teen and teen offerings are comprehensive and fun.
Entertainment featuring lively production shows like Rock Show that will have you out of your seat, really funny comedians performing in Punch Lines, and don't Forget Dr. Seuss Characters roaming the decks providing entertainment for the young and young at Heart.

I've never disliked Carnival food offerings, but I never thought they were that good either. I would have to say the biggest surprise to me was the food options and quality available. Carnival has really stepped up there food service game; buffets and deck side options offer a vast variety of food options, including Guy's Burger Joint (Yum) Pig & Anchor BBQ, Blue Iguana Cantina (Chipotle eat your heart out) and who doesn't love 24/7 pizza and soft serve ice cream.

Rooms and Suites: Carnival has always had some of the largest rooms available at sea, and this has not changed with Carnival Vista. The difference is the decor evolved with the times with very tasteful decor, and still offering larger accommodations. Still this is the area that could use some improvements. I found the bed to be to hard for my liking, but those that like a firm bed will be quite happy. The item I really don't like is in the bathroom, I would have liked a few advanced like a shower door not a curtain and a bit more space. The button to flush is in a very awkward area. These are very minor issues, overall the Carnival Vista would get a good choice for families of all ages, couples looking to travel with options for nightlife a multitude of dining options all at a reasonable price.
The Carnival Vista is worthy of taking another look at what Carnival has to offer.
